jornales

for a moment of joy or moments no one pays for, i give myself a ‘jornal’. this makes me rich. try it.

a simple test (a non-haikai play of verses)

what cranks the wheel

why we need to care

which way to hold an infant

how to wipe dry the tears

when to turn away an eye

whose hand to hold on a cliff

whatever happens in dreams

whichever flower to lay on a tomb

however a name sounds

whenever a manacle breaks

whosoever belongs to whom

where to bury endings

because wounds bleed

laughter crackles

smiles break walls

sobs thicken nights

giggles bring in the dawn

sighs stir cankered clouds

words breathe life to bones

wings shade a peregrine

ponds feed moonlight

I will brave the deep

vow on a mountain

promise with the galaxies

pledge on steel

believe moons stay

plea for a poem (for One Shot Wednesday)

write me a poem
words to breathe in
even if only whispers
as shouts have turned
the air into a
hail storm

write me some rain–
my heart crackles
in the draught longing
for words drenched in
thought to sip
in the dark

i yearn for verses
snipped from flame tips
words that dance
the fire of fallen angels
saved from their march
on dying coals

write me a song
cadenced in sunsets
tympanis of words
rising off the hum
of meanings
drums have flattened

give me back poems
shredded spirits birth
in caves midnights cleanse–
poems howling wolves
hankering for stars
divine

Heart on wings (One Shot Wednesday)

Stone on my steps,
is it? But a sparrow
side-lain, staring

ending a flight quite swift
arrow-taut toward water
that fooled its foolish heart.

How could pea-eyes
know traps between air
and sky could seem nothing?

Tiny hearts spurt sighting
their longing–to a sweet sparrow
wings on water.

Flitting straight on,
heart on wings
the water a beak within–

except that glass
is also water.
