jornales

for a moment of joy or moments no one pays for, i give myself a ‘jornal’. this makes me rich. try it.

‘words’, First place, July 2011 Shiki kukai (what a break!)

words
we’ve left unsaid–
Indian summer

First Place, July 2011 Shiki kukai (Kigo prompt: weather)

Luna moths–
some things
we can’t see

8 pts., July 2011 Shiki kukai (free format: moths)

I can say a lot about what in these haiku I wrote from a blank space (or not trying to write a perfect one) garnered votes–first place or the most votes for kigo even! Let me know what you think about it.

  1. These are both great, Alegria! Yeah…that perfectionism thing really gets in the way of writing haiku. These feel like they just came straight out of your heart.

    • Thanks, Melissa! Thanks for always being here! Yes, I’ll write from that space from now on, or try not to ‘strive too hard’ for a perfect haiku, if that’s at all possible. Thanks again! Alegria

  2. yeah – it’s being human in our work that makes our work rich (imo) – especially true with haiku i think… i like these a lot Alegria. especially that first one. perfect!. oops. yeah, just as it came out. and then let it go. way cool. aloha.

    • …what word could possibly describe that moment when a really great feeling especially from words suffuses us? Stunned is not quite it because this fits sight. What I’m groping to find is auditory in a way because we also ‘hear’ what we ‘read’, don’t we? What I’m skirting around to say is really ‘thank you’ for how you think my ‘words’ (yeah, again!) haiku is “perfect”! THAT is quite a feat for me, so hard to come by. And so, thanks again, dear dear friend for propping me up!
